In this blog we will see which tools can be used in Dynamics NAV to migrate data into the system and how to convert the data to perform the NAV requirements. The below mentioned tools are on hand.

RapidStart Services
RapidStart Services is a new feature of Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2013R2.RapidStart Services helps you gain an overview of the setup process of your new company by providing a worksheet in which you can set up the tables involved in the configuration process of new companies. You can create Questionnaires to guide our customers to through the collection of setup information when you use RapidStart Services, you can configure and migrate existing customer data, such as a list of customers or items, into the new company.
The RapidStart Services tools can be found under the Department menu,
Departments/Administration/Application Setup/RapidStart Services for Microsoft Dynamics NAV.
The following mechanism can be used to set up a new company:
• Configuration wizard
• Configuration packages
• Configuration worksheet
• Configuration templates
• Configuration questionnaire
The following steps explain how to create a company using Rapid Start Services:
1) Firstly we need to create a company, it is just a name for the company, later we need to initialize the company with data using Rapid Start services which will be explained on next point onwards.
Go to Departments –> Administration -> IT Administration -> General, click the link/action “Companies” on the Lists group listed under General menu, as shown in below screenshot.
After click the “Companies” action as shown on the above screen shot, the Companies list place will open with default company as CRONUS International Ltd. as shown below.
2) After the Companies page opens, click the action “New” to create a new company, it’s just a name for the company as explained previously, we will create company details such as General, Communication, Payments, Shipping and so on with data, later using RapidStart services.
As you can see in the below screenshot shows how to create a new company.
3) When you click the action “New”, it opens the “Companies” page with create mode, where you enter a name for the company.
Following screenshot shows the “Companies” page in Create mode.
As shown in below screenshot the Companies page opens in create mode and a blank line on the list with the page is editable. You can enter the name of the compnay you wish to create then.
Click the Ok action/button to create the company and closes the page.
4) After the new compnay created, to open a new company, On a page with a ribbon, choose the Application Menu, then choose Select Server as shown in below screen shot.
5) When you click the Select Server action, it opens the Select Server window, as shown below, where you can select the new compnay has created and click the Ok button to open a new companay.
6) After the new company selected and clicks the Ok button, system opens the new company with default Role Center RapidStart Services Implement as shown below.
7) Click the RapidStart Servicec Wizard action as shown in figure 7. After it opens Welcome to RapidStart Services for Microsoft Dynamics NAV page, where you can fill up the details of the company you are being created.
8) You can fill up all details of the company required on the FastTabs of the Welcome to RapidStart Services for Microsoft Dynamics NAV page such as Step 1. Enter your company details, Step2. Enter communication details, and Step 3. Enter payment details. After filled up these Fast Tabs, you can use the Step 4. Select package FastTab import/load the RapidStart file which has data for the new company created.
The following screenshot shows how to load the package into the company.
9) After the AssistEdit button has clicked, the system opens the Select a package file window, here you can select the RapidStart file which you wish to load and click Open button as shown below.
After the RapidStart file has been loaded into the page, click the Apply Package action to import the data into the company as shown in the Figure 11: Shows how to apply loaded package to the company.
Once the system has started importing data into the company, system shows the progress bar as shown in the Figure 12: Shows Status of the data import.
While importing data into the company, system may ask for confirmation to import/copy the data which may need permission to copy the data into the company. This has been shown in the below screenshot or Figure 13: Shows user’s confirmation for data import.
10) The below screenshot shows how to apply package to the company after selection of the RapidStart package.
11) When user clicks the Apply Package action, system starts applying the package to import the data into the company.
12) After the data import has been completed, system shows the data import completion status which May shows number of tables is processed successfully with errors if any. This has been shown in the below screenshot.
