Whether you’re a seasoned project manager or just starting out, Mastering Jira Software can significantly enhance your team’s productivity and collaboration. One of the fundamental steps in utilizing Jira Software is creating projects tailored to your team’s needs.
Let’s dive in and explore how to create your first project in Jira Software.
Click on the Projects section and in that you will be able to see an option to “Create Project”.
Once you click on the Create Project you will be redirected to below page, where on the left-hand side you will be able to see all the available Project Templates.
In this blog I will be showcasing a Software development scrum project creation.

Once I select the scrum, you will be asked for a confirmation on using template.
Once you click on use template, you will be redirected to the below page where you will be asked to “Choose a Project Type”.
If you wish to change the template, you will see that option as well.
Team Managed Project:
Team managed project are formerly called Next-gen Projects, which are applicable for Autonomous/Independent/Self-controlled teams.
Project Admin can manage everything without the need for Jira Admin.
Company Managed Project:
Company managed projects are formerly called Classic Projects, which are applicable for everyone in the Organization.
Jira Admin can control everything, Project Admin have limited control of what they can do.
I am selecting a company managed Project, and you will see below page asking for the Project Name and Key.
Project Key is auto generated, you can change it as well.
Once entered all the necessary fields you can click on next.
If want to link your code repository, you will be able to connect in this page.
For now, I will just click on continue and you will be redirected to the Home Page of your Project.
On the left-hand top corner, you will be able to see your project name.
Create option is used to create your issues inside the project.
