Instructions for setting up VS2010 Hands-on labs:
Minimum Hardware requirements:
- Processor : Pentium 2.6 GHz+
- Memory : 4 GB RAM
- Hard Disk: 50 GB free space on a single drive/partition
Software requirements:
- Operating System: Microsoft Windows XP Professional SP3/ Vista/ Windows 7 (Operating System)
- Virtualization Software: Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 SP1/ Windows Virtual PC / Windows Server 2008 Hyper-V
- Virtual Image: Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 and Team Foundation Server 2010 RTM VPC
Instructions for configuring the VS2010 Virtual image in Windows Virtual PC (Windows 7):
- Click the Download button on this page to download all parts of the Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 RTM Windows Virtual PC Image (Trial). The first part is a self-extracting EXE and will prompt for the other parts.
- Click on the self-extracting .part0001.exe to extract two files (VS2010RTM.vmc and VS2010RTM.vhd). You will need to read and accept the License Terms before extraction proceeds.
- Launch the Windows Virtual PC window by clicking Start –> All Programs –> Windows Virtual PC –> Windows Virtual PC.
- Click the Create virtual machine button on the toolbar to launch the “Create a virtual machine” wizard.
- On the “Specify a name and location for this virtual machine” page, in the Name field, write Visual Studio 2010 RTM. See Fig: 3
- In the Location field, enter the path where you extracted the two files listed above (by default C:VS2010-RTM VPC) or use the Browse option.
- Click Next
- On the “Specify memory and networking options” page, put 2,560 for the amount of RAM. Do not exceed the maximum amount RAM listed as supported by your computer. Lower the amount if necessary. However, using less than 1,536 MB of RAM might make the virtual machine perform slowly. See Fig: 4
- Remove the check next to “Use computer network connections”.
- Click Next.
- On the “Add a virtual hard disk” page, select the “Use an existing virtual hard disk” radio button. See Fig: 5
- Click the Browse button and navigate to the location you extracted the files to and select the VS2010 RTM. vhd file. See Fig: 5
- Optionally, check the “Enable Undo Disks” option (recommended). See Fig: 5
- Click Create to finish the process.
- Once VPC is created open the VPC on selecting the VS2010RTM VPC and click on open and start the VPC.
- Login into the VPC and select the Abuobe user and enter the password “P2ssw0rd”.
- This completes the VPC configuration for hands-on lab.
